Formal Scrolls! ?? Empty Formal Scrolls! ??

Post  Micha_Amasai Wed May 05, 2010 10:50 pm

Okay, so I am setting here going over all the formal stuff and trying to take in what I can (So excited to use formal magic) but anyways I start to ponder... Where do formal scrolls come from? ...... I know you can get copies, find them IG and so forth, but all other IG items and aspects have meaning and reasoning to where they came from..... such as created items....

So other as far as an IG prospecting "Where do formal scrolls come from?" .... I think this could even be an interesting "Find out in game" situation if there was a logical explanation.....

Aside from my rambling... thoughts? explanations?

Well I do enjoy when logistics and fantasy come together. The key to this is making a way of creating the scroll while at the same time making it virtually impossible for any character to willingly desire an attempt to create such a scroll. Personally, I would theorise a "legend" that stated during an ancient war... all was lost... yada yada yada... wizards would sacrifice themselves to create the scrolls. Now the math would have to be outrageous like 11 high casters had to sacrifice themselves to make a level one formal scroll and it would take 99 high casters of earth magic perming themselves to create a single level 9 earth scroll. thereby making it completely infeasable for a character to be able to create a scroll. Just a thought. Smile

I think it would cost the life of not only several formal mages but a dragon or two. and while we are at it might as well throw in the sacrificing of a virgin. I agree we do need some IG explanation for the existence of formal scrolls.

To all players,

This is my offical explaination concerning formal magic scrolls. Once a long time ago in ancient times mages once knew how to create formal magic scrolls. This knowledge has since been lost and now mages can only read and copy such magic scrolls.

Many of these scrolls can be found in the great libraries of Avalon or on other continents in Tyrra. These libraries have complete collections of each known formal magic scroll of both schools. The constant up keep of such libraries make it only possible for the great nations of Avalon to keep these works on hand.

There are many private collectors in Avalon and many of these scrolls can be found in such collections. Other ways one might find such scrolls is in ancient tombs, ruins, strongholds etc...

The last way such scrolls of power are found, is they are created by ancient powers and creatures that still remember the knowledge of the creation magic. These scrolls are usually created to help further the cause of those that created it.

I hope this helps explain why formal magic scrolls are only found and not created by PCs.

^^ I dub it "Ti Tie's Big Bang Theory, part 27". Something tells me all Ti Tie's theories involve a big bang of some kind.
